No fewer than seven people have died in a fire incident in Obele
Lawanson Community, Surulere area of Lagos State.
The PUNCH learnt that only a six-year-old girl survived the fire
accident.
She was said to have been rushed to the emergency ward of the
Gbagada General Hospital, while the the remains of the other
victims were deposited in a morgue.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said
the agency could not tell why the casualty figure was high, as
the fire only affected some parts of the house.
Fadipe, who said the state’s fire service responded to 12 fire
disasters over the night, explained that there was need for
increased vigilance among residents.
“We are still at a loss over why the casualty was that high
because the fire itself was not that severe. The kitchen was not
affected, so nobody can explain why it was that serious. The
survivor was rescued from the bathroom,” he said.
