Benzema dismisses Real Madrid exit talk

AUGUST 24, 2015 : GOAL.COM Leave a Comment Karim Benzema has dismissed speculation he could leave Real Madrid for Arsenal by insisting the Santiago Bernabeu is his home. Goal revealed back in May that the Gunners were ready to launch an ambitious bid to sign the France international, believing that the player would be interested in a move to north London. But Real Madrid’s insistence that Benzema would not be sold has been unwavering and last week Goal reported a growing acceptance at Arsenal that they will not get their man this summer. And after returning to first-team training at Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex on Monday, Benzema has finally gone public to distance himself from reports of a possible transfer. Benzema’s decision makes it likelier that Petr Cech will remain Arsenal’s only significant first-team signing this summer, with Arsene Wenger insisting he will only sanction moves for elite targets. The 27-year-old joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2009 a

Four refugees dead, dozens rescued on Mediterranean

AUGUST 24, 2015 : ALJAZEERA Leave a Comment Three people have died after a boat carrying 73 refugees capsized off the northwestern coast of Turkey, Turkish state media quoting the coastguard said. The coastguard said that all other refugees were saved in Monday’s shipwreck – the first of two deadly incidents on Monday. The semi-official Anatolia Agency said that the group, composed of Afghans and Syrian, had sailed from the Ayvacik coast of Canakkale province to reach the nearby Greek island of Lesbos when their boat sank. Bolt beats Gatlin to win world 100m title

Image
Bolt celebrating after winning the 100m in Beijing ... on Sunday | credits: AFP usain Bolt produced perhaps his greatest miracle of all as he put a troubled build-up behind him to beat two-time doper and clear favourite Justin Gatlin to retain his world 100m title, BBC reports. The controversial Gatlin came into the final on a 28-race unbeaten run and apparently relishing his role as the sport’s bad guy. But at the same Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing where Bolt announced himself to the world with two Olympic golds and two world records in 2008, the Jamaican superstar came past a faltering Gatlin at the death to snatch victory by one hundredth of a second. Bolt’s 9.79 seconds was more than two tenths off his world record, but this was a night for athletics to celebrate victories rather than times. Canada’s Andre de Grasse and young American Trayvon Bromell were both awarded bronzes in 9.92secs. Few noticed. This was once again the Bolt show, even

Corruption, worst rights violation ever —Buhari

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari  President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday described corruption as the greatest human rights violation ever. Justifying the reason why his administration is waging a large scale war against graft, Buhari said the effects of corruption were manifest in suffering, deprivation and death that innocent people were being exposed to. Rape and lesbianism

AUGUST 24, 2015 : OUR READER Leave a Comment Rape is defined as an unlawful sexual intercourse with a woman typically by a man without her consent, chiefly by force. It is an outrageous violation of the decency and the essence of womanhood. It is an indignity that remains in her mind forever. All men of conscience must, in righteous indignation, condemn this bestiality. This evil act permeates the spectrum of the society and threatens to tear its fabric. My worry is that underage girls now fall victims. This rapaciousness is no longer the preserve of strangers, but of close relations! Fathers, uncles, guardians, neighbours, and even brothers perpetrate this iniquity! The time is almost at hand, when women will get wary of relationship with men, and adopt gender affinity; same sex! We condemned gay marriage. Pity as we precariously re-invent lesbianism! It’s our own nuclear device for human extinction!

PDP faults Ahmed’s N5bn loan

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed People’s Democratic Party in Kwara State has faulted the rationale behind the state government’s decision to borrow five billion naira to pay the arrears of local governments’ staff salaries. The state Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chief Rex Olawoye, made the observation in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin. Olawoye, therefore, challenged Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, to explain what the monthly Federal Allocations to the councils have been used for. He maintained that the N3.5bn Federal Allocation to the 16 local governments in the state for the month of June was adequate to offset the three months arrears of salaries allegedly owed council staff. He said this was aside the state statutory allocation of N5.2bn from the Federation Account for the same month. “Once an organisation resorts to borrowing to pay salaries, such organisation should be counting its days of collapse or bankruptcy. “As much as
