The President, Ogun Baptist Conference, Dr. Adesegun
Jayesimi, on Friday threw his weight behind President
Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war, saying those found
culpable should be punished.
He said this in Abeokuta on Friday while briefing journalists on
the 38th edition of the conference holding in Sagamu, starting
on Saturday.
Jayesimi, who described the war against corruption as a worthy
crusade, however, warned that it should not be used as a witch-
hunt against political opponents.
He said, “Ogun Baptist Conference also joins the crusade
against all forms of corruption and malpractices that seem to be
the order of the day in this nation.
“This is a worthy crusade that all Nigerians need to put
resources together to fight to a logical conclusion.
“Nevertheless, I strongly urge the agencies, directly handling
corruption cases, to be thorough in their investigation and
management of the issues and thus serve as unbiased umpires
that can be trusted to discharge their duties without fear or
favour of anyone.
“The crusade against corruption should not be used as a witch-
hunt against political opponents but should be a punitive
measure to the corrupt ones in Nigeria.”
The cleric condemned insurgency in the country, commending
members of armed forces for effectively combating them and
defending the territorial integrity of the nation.
Jayesimi, who said the theme of this year’s conference is
‘Church and Peace Management’, called on relevant security
agencies to stop the spate of kidnapping, assassination and
other violent crimes in the country.
