NOV. GUBER POLL: Kogi West PDP leaders endorse Gov. Wada

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Kogi West
Senatorial District gathered in Lokoja, the state capital, on
Thursday, to endorse the candidature of Governor Idris Wada
ahead of the November 21 governorship election in the state.
This endorsement, which took place at Rakiya Ogbeha Place,
Lokoja came on the heels of a similar endorsement by the
members of the Working Committees of the party in the nine
local government areas of Kogi East.
The support for the governor for second term, the leaders of
Kogi West PDP disclosed, was not un-conditional as they
declared their resolve to see to the actualization of power
rotation in the state after the tenure of Wada.
The leaders hailed the governor for his ability to maintain
balance between human and infrastructural development since
the inception of his administration.
The meeting was attended by over 200 leaders of the PDP from
Kogi West. Prominent among those who attended the meeting
are Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State deputy governor; Senator
Tunde Ogbeha; Prince Olushola Akanmode, a former Deputy
Chief of Staff in the Presidency; Alhaji Musa Ahmadu; Hon.
Shola Ojo; Dr. (Mrs) Grace Gunwa and many others.
The leaders disclosed that a notice of their resolution to engage
with other stakeholders of the state on power rotation had been
communicated to Wada; Senator Ahmadu Ali, a former National
Chairman of PDP; and Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, a former governor of
the state and other members of the Kogi State Elders Council.
They said that the agitation for power shift is just, but that it
must be handled methodically and sincerely, expressing
confidence in the willingness of the governor to ensure power
rotation after his second term in office.
The leaders noted that the achievements of Wada, in the face of
grave financial challenges, remained under publicized, leading to
unsavoury comments by a section of the populace who know
the truth but chose to play politics with serious economic
issues.
They looked at issues relating to workers salaries and
commended Wada for the efforts he had made to ensure
payment despite the drastic drop in allocations from the
Federation Account.
On the payment of the salaries of workers at the Local
Government Service, particularly teachers, the leaders noted
that the shortfall arose from the declining allocation to local
government councils from the Federation Account.
The leaders, however, appealed to the teachers and staff in the
Local Government Service to be patient with the governor as he
makes efforts to remedy the situation.
They expressed confidence in the ability of Wada to consolidate
on the achievements he recorded in his first term.
