 THE management of Total E&P Nigeria Limited
has said that its objective goes beyond oil
exploration in communities in Nigeria, as the
company is also interested in the comprehensive
well-being of the people within its operational
areas.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Managing
Director, Port Harcourt District, Mr. Nicolas
Brunet, at the NNPC/TEPNG Healthy Living
Awareness Campaign for Akwa Ibom State
communities held at Oron Local Council.
Represented by Mr. Izu Iduoku, deputy General
Manager of the company, he said: “The
programme is meant to touch the lives of it host
communities in many ways.
With the theme: ‘Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension
and Stroke’, he stressed that these are health
conditions often overlooked by many, adding
that such negligence could lead to deprivation of
one being well and even confined to sickbay or
hospital.
“Early identification of signs and symptoms will
help us in seeking medical help before it becomes
too late for diagnosis and effective treatment.”
“This awareness campaign will engender effective
and sustainable lifestyle and habit changes that
will help in preventing most medical emergencies
and death”, he said.
With a large turnout including the Paramount
Ruler of Oron Local Council, Obong Offong Akan,
Total management charged the people of its host
communities to embrace change of lifestyle to
avoid attendant fatal health consequences.
“It is, therefore, imperative that we draw the
attention of our people to beware of these
perennial killers and take proactive actions to
forestall being victim. I, therefore, use this
platform to enjoin all of you to take advantage of
the knowledge provided to live healthy ”, he
added.
The facilitator of the programmee, Dr. Angus
Ikpe of Standard Care Health Solution, charged
the people to change their lifestyle, especially
regarding what they eat or drink.
He stressed on the need for regular exercise and
medical checkup as early identification of the
symptom of any of the killer sickness could be
managed or controlled.
More than 300 persons attended the healthy living
awareness campaign.
