From Emmanuel Adeyemi, Lokoja
THE Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered over N80
billion loot including N23 billion stashed in 40 banks in the
country.
A member of the commission, Mallam Ozi Salami, stated
this yesterday during the maiden interactive session of the
North Central zonal advisory/ consultative committee held
at the Confluence Beach Hotel, Lokoja, Kogi State.
He said the commission has so far received over 4,497
petitions with 899 cases con- cluded while 470 are still in
court.
He said contrary to claims that the anti-graft agency has
not performed well in securing convictions in the court, he
said it has done so much that it has helped in shaping the
society.
Salami said, for example, the commission on receiving a
petition investigated and uncovered 63 illegal degree-
awarding institutionsand in conjuction with the National
Universities Commission (NUC) ordered their closure.
