Court grants N50, 000 bail to suspect alleged of stealing N25, 000 cell phone By NAN

Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday granted
Shola Afeez bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a
surety.
Afeez was alleged to have stolen a Microsoft cell
phone valued at N25, 000.
Etti ordered that the surety must provide
evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State
Government while he adjourned the case to Jan. 7
for further hearing.
Afeez, 25, and unemployed was residing at No 5,
Senami St., Topo in Badagry, Lagos State, is
facing a charge of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told
the court that the accused committed the offence
on Dec. 1.
Uko alleged that the accused stole the phone from
Miss Sarah Akinsanya.
“The victim was walking on the street when the
accused quietly walked up to her and took her
phone from inside her bag.
“The victim noticed it, raised an alarm and the
suspect was apprehended by passers-by,’’ he said.
Uko said that the offence contravened Section 285
of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
Section 285 prescribes a three- year
imprisonment for convicted offenders.
Afeez, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The counsel to the accused, Mr Dotun Kinrin,
urged the court to grant his client bail since it
was a bailable offence.
