Emir of Keffi dies at 70

Keffi - The Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Mohammadu Chindo Yamusa II, has passed away. The Galadima of Keffi, Alhaji Abdul Usman, confirmed this on Friday at a news conference in Keffi Local Government Area of the state. The Galadima, who is also the emir’s cousin, said that the late monarch, who took ill briefly, died in the early hours of Friday in his palace in Keffi. He said, “our emir, the promoter of peace and culture died this morning after a brief illness. “His death is heartbreaking, painful but God gives life and takes it at will. “The emir had contributed a lot to the development of not only Keffi, but to the development of Nasarawa State and the entire country while alive.’’ According to him, the late emir was 70 years old and ascended the throne on May 11, 1978. Hotel owners forum lament multiple taxation By NAN

Image; mabuku The Hotel Owners Forum Abuja (HOFA), has decried the issue of multiple taxation imposed on its members by government. The President of HOFA, Dr Bola Onigbogi made this known at the annual dinner of the forum in Abuja on Friday. She said that because if the visibility of hotel business, it was easy for government agencies to track them down for the enforcement of numerous taxes. “ A quick count of the amount of taxes we pay shows that we pay over 30 different taxes in Abuja. Can anyone survive this onslaught? Can any business survive under this regulatory environment? The answer is no. “`The year started with a 40 per cent increase on our electricity tariffs, then we were asked to pay an additional five per cent of our revenue to a new body call FCT Entertainment and Events Centre Department. “We have had to enter into discussion with Abuja Municipal Council to discuss some of these tariffs and taxes that they have levied on us this year. ...

N6.9m worth of Snakes, Geckos, Spiders imported into Nigeria intercepted in Calabar

Nanbyen Burromvyat , the Customs Area Comptroller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone, Cross River and Akwa Ibom Command, has said the command intercepted three consignments containing 140 species of snakes and 600 other animals imported into Nigeria. She said the consignments were imported from Cameroon aboard a vessel  MV Flesh , and were intercepted by officers on July 24, 2017, on arrival at the  National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)  jetty, with a market value of N6.9 million. PUNCH reports  that the Lagos-bound animals were made up of geckos, millipedes, hairy frogs and spiders. “These containers have animals of different sizes. They were brought in on July 24, 2017, through the Calabar waterways. There is no permit to bring live animals into the country.
